Devotion to Growth
Find out how we grow the love of STEM in others and grow the skills of our members.
Throughout the year our team conducts various outreach products in order to give back to the communities that molded us into who we are today; the biggest outreach project that we do every year is at Wilson Elementary, where many of our FTC members spent their formative years. At Wilson we teach the kids how to code through multiple games and the students, split into their various grades, compete with others to have the most efficient coding in order to win awards and learn.
The other outreach projects vary in size as they range from teaching kids engineering and coding at a summer camp, hosting league meets at our school, mentoring freshmen at New Tech, and helping kids make and launch paper stomp rockets at our school's Fall Festival. Through all these outreach efforts, we hope to spread the interest of STEM and promote a new generation of engineers, programmers, and marketers.
In Depth
find out everything you need to know about our biggest outreach projects
Wilson Elementary
There are various activities that the students at Wilson participate in throughout their age groups. In the most recent year the 5th graders had to transport 'unobtanium' from Mars and maneuver around asteroids and black holes. The 3rd graders programmed Dash and Dots to move around a board, and the younger grades built and programmed Lego Mindstorms.
League
Meets
We hosted three-team meets for the Tech League (T-League) at New Tech High @ Coppell. We were excited about this opportunity! It was an honor to be chosen as host because this is our second year to compete. We provided tools and parts from our Maker Space classroom. This outreach and hospitality helped grow our reputation in the FTC community. Hosting also gave us a chance to give back to the FTC community.
CEF Summer Camp
We mentored incoming middle schoolers about the First Lego League and help teach them block coding to make the Lego robot do various tasks. We were there to help guide the incoming middle schoolers in programming or making the robot. We also made sure the events were fully functional, like building the different structures, and helped make sure the events were set up before people arrived
Fall
Festival
New Tech High @ Coppell hosts an annual fall festival to raise money for our school, charity, and clubs. Our teams organized a stomp rocket activity to promote STEM in our community. We taught people how to make the rockets step-by-step. Afterward, they would compete for candy by launching the rocket to pass a line that was placed. Mr. Suura, our mentor, would then explain the physics behind the stomp rocket’s launch to participants.
